Day Trips, The Lakes Region — By admin on January 7, 2010 at 11:56 amLake Como is a beautiful place to visit in the north of Italy. It is about 40 minutes from Milan and it makes a lovely change from the metropolitan city life. You can relax and enjoy the beautiful and calming scenery at Lake Como. Once you are there you can reach the different resorts by boat, car ferry or bus. This area is very popular with lovers, walkers, cyclists, joggers, swimmers and with people who just want to sit and take in the stunning scenery.
When To Visit Lake Como
If you can only visit Lake Como is in the summer you should take into account that it is also very popular with the Italians so it is very busy at this time of year and if you really want to visit Lake Como you need to book several months in advance. If you just turn up during the summer months you will find it hard to find a place to stay. If you prefer to just turn up to a place and find a room then you should try in the spring or in the fall. These are the best times of the year to visit Lake Como when it is not quite so hot and it is also less crowded.
Towns Around Lake Como
The main towns around the lake are Bellagio, Como, Mennagio, Varrena and Lecco. They are all worth a visit. Each one is unique, offering special local cuisine, incredible views for photographers and different memorable experiences.
How To Get To Lake Como
Since Lake Como is only 40km away from Milan city center, the best way to get to Lake Como is to drive. However, if you are flying in to MXP, Malpensa airport, and want a direct route to Como, then you can take the Malpensa Express Train to Saronna.
